Can I code TIA if a resident is receiving Eliquis routinely to prevent further TIAs
A:
In order for TIA to be considered an active diagnosis, the physician would need to specifically document that the diagnosis is active (and not by listing TIA on the resident’s diagnosis list or face sheet), or have documented signs and symptoms of TIA. If the resident has no current symptom(s) and Eliquis is prescribed for prevention, TIA would not be coded as an active disease.
