Q:

We are questioning the MDS/Care planning meeting schedule. When adding an extra OBRA to capture rehab or other clinical conditions for Case Mix, do we need a care plan review even though we may have had one recently?

A:

Per the State operations manual, F657. Pg 245 the requirement is for the care plan to be reviewed with each OBRA as noted below:

  • (iii) Reviewed and revised by the interdisciplinary team after each assessment, including both the comprehensive and quarterly review assessments.

So, yes, you should do a care plan review with an OBRA, even if it is extra. The IDT should update the plan of care and meet the regulations. The resident and family should also be invited to the care plan meeting.
