I’ve noticed when reviewing resident diagnoses for MDS Section I that several of the diagnoses are suddenly showing an error message. How do I correct this?
A:
CMS has revised several ICD-10 codes for the 2023 fiscal year. These codes became effective October 1, 2022. Check with your clinical software provider to determine how to generate a list of current residents with inactive diagnoses. For example, in PointClickCare you can open a ‘Diagnosis Report’ and select the filter option of ‘Inactive Codes Only’.
Once you have your list, you can then find the new ICD-10 codes on the ‘2023 Conversion Table’ which can be downloaded from CMS Website. Follow your facility’s policy on revising resident diagnoses.
