Can you clarify the abuse reporting requirements in relation to what must be reported within 2 hours and what types of incidents do we have 24 hours to report?
A:
All alleged violations for abuse, neglect, exploitation or mistreatment, including injuries of unknow origin and misappropriation of property, as well as the results of all investigations are required to be reported to officials in accordance with your State law, including to the survey agency and the adult protective services where state law provides for jurisdiction in long-term care facilities. If the alleged violation involves abuse or results in serious bodily injury, it must be reported immediately, within 2 hours of the alleged violation. You have up to 24 hours to report any alleged violations of neglect, exploitation, mistreatment, or misappropriation of property that do not result in serious bodily injury. The results of all investigations must be reported within 5 working days of the incident. You should consult with your State agency to determine additional state specific reporting requirements that may apply to your facility.
