Q:
Can you code restorative programs in section O that are completed while performing ADL care? For example, can you code AROM when a resident is lifting their arms & legs while bathing & dressing?
A:
No. For both active and passive range of motion, the RAI Manual states that movement by a resident that accompanies dressing, bathing, etc., does not count as part of a formal restorative nursing program. Active or passive range of motion must be an individualized program that is planned, monitored evaluated, and documented in the resident’s medical record. Additionally, range of motion should be performed by staff who are trained how to complete.
