We do not currently have an MDS Coordinator and it will be some time before the new one can start. Who can complete the MDS; does it have to be a nurse?
A:
Each facility self-determines its policies and procedures for patient documentation practices and completing the assessments in compliance with state and federal requirements. Based on the nature of the MDS items, several members of the IDT may contribute to coding responses. A registered nurse (RN) assessment coordinator must sign and date the MDS item Z0500 completion attestation.
