Q:
Does the Primary diagnosis code entered at I0020B also need to be entered as an active diagnosis at I8000?
A:
Yes, per the RAI guidelines for coding I0020, it states “Include the primary medical condition coded in this item in Section I: Active Diagnoses in the last 7 days.” (RAI Manual, Oct 2019, Pg. I-2). Diagnosis coded at I0020B will not result in NTA points if they are not also checked in Section I (if there is a checkbox option for the diagnosis) or indicated at I8000.
