This session addresses core activities of an effective compliance and ethics program in the SNF/LTC/AL setting including best practices for meeting standards related to implementing and publicizing a reporting system that allows anonymous reporting of violations without fear of retribution, processes for ensuring the integrity of reported data and for responding with reasonable steps to address potential issues including conducting investigations. Examples of “hotline” systems and a sample investigation pathway with reporting will be reviewed. Discussion will include ensuring consistent enforcement of standards through appropriate disciplinary procedures and using insights gained from substantiated problems to improve future compliance.
