This session addresses core activities of an effective Compliance and Ethics Program in the SNF/LTC/AL setting including operation of a compliance committee and implementation of auditing and monitoring functions. Training will cover considerations for selecting committee members that bring varying perspectives and insights related to potential facility compliance risks, as well as roles and responsibilities of the committee members and chair. Discussion of compliance auditing and monitoring functions will include prioritization of audit topics, defining audit scope, assigning responsibilities, trending data and using information gleaned from review activities to drive improved compliance.

Learning objectives:

  1. Identify key considerations for implementing an effective Compliance and Ethics Program Committee
  2. Distinguish the difference between auditing and monitoring activities, and how each may be used to measure and promote compliant practice
  3. Understand concepts related to applying effective audit principles in the selection of topics, audit assignments, and use of outcomes data by the Compliance Officer and Committee.
